on California street and later in a larger factory warehouse on Needham street in Newton MA. The original Power Sub and Slave system was also offered in formica or Vinyl.Īll of the original Soundworks speakers were made in Newton MA. We dropped the Hard laminate version of the ensemble woofer and all of the later woofers were vinyl clad. We actually sold them without nextel "primed for painting" for a while we even made a run of woofers for the ensemble designed to hang on a wall ( also primed and ready for painting - I still have a set and use them from time to time bi-amp with a pair of McIntosh MC7270 amps or Audire Forte's - I've also used a pair of NAD 2200 PE, Adcom 545, 555, Aragon 4004 MKII's NAD 2600's to bi-amp them over the years). You can use Alcohol stripper to clean them down to the primer, sand and repaint. Nextel won't last a lifetime in humid conditions, as the paint absorbs moisture it will break down and become sticky and gooey. Vertical or Horizontal bi-amping works equally well so long as you're using a pair of the same stereo amps or 4 of the same mono amps to power the system. Since they have their own crossovers ( sub and sat) they can be BI-AMPed with no ill affect on your amplifers. They were designed to be wired Sat to sub or sub to sat or both coming off the main L/R terminal on the amp in parallel Although NEVER published by CSW the crossover point is in the range of about 140hz High pass on the sat, and low pass on the woofer. The woofers were made in house and had a heat sink on the voice coil of the woofers.Įarly satellites no switches for high mid contour but shortly after they were added just around the time when the woofer lost the it's propeller heatsink. during that time the speakers came with 100ft of 18g speaker wire, wire cutter/strippers and multiple sets of rubber feet. There was a $50-$100 variance depending on the finish on the woofers. The first was a formica type laminate woofer version and a vinyl clad woofer. There were roughly 5-6 different variations of the original 4 piece Ensemble system

Motorola digital TV box (AT&T broadband cable)Some corrections that should be noted as I read them in this thread. When you have 5+ speakers hook up, you'll need the juice. My Sony STR-DE445 A/V receiver is just not doing it justice. Give it a try.įolks, I also highly suggest a very clean amp/receiver for this speaker.

Furthermore, CSW has a full range of speakers that can satisfy the majority of Americans out there. I think that consumer values and support should be considered when purchasing expensive electronics. I was treated very well by their rep., unlike at Bestbuy where I was always ignored. Without further manure, I would like to advocate that CambridgeSoundworks (CSW) does good business. Moreover, since I don't have any Newton speakers (like the compact MC200 or MC50), I think matching will be better with the centerstage any my larger/older speakers. With voices (especially males), the centerstage was deeper and I like that more so I end up buying the centerstage. At high volumes, I start to hear hissing at the Centerstage, but the MC300 was still static-free. The Centerstage has more bass up front, but the MC300 has more tonal clarity. The new Newton MC300 center was also on sale when I went to buy the Centerstage, so I compared them. That isn't a fault of the speaker I think that a center stage shouldn't be used for music anyway. I think the higher frequency of this speaker is attenuated compared to my mains (Model Seventeen and Warfedale SP-83). I find that the timbre in this speaker is a little flat. I would use this centerstage for movies and watching TV, but probably not for music (especially classical or jazz).

It is best used in dialog or where is a lot of vocals. It has nice dispersion, and the music with it is decent. It is deep in bass and crisp in the midrange.

I just bought the speaker a couple of days ago and it is really nice. This center channel was CSW flagship center for a long time (over 5 years~!).

The centerstage lists for $199, but now it is $129! What a deal. I just want to tell you folks who are interested in buying a center channel speaker that Cambridge Soundworks is now having a huge local store sale (not on the internet) as of September 1, 2001.
